Emma Williams
NO INTRODUCTION NECESSARY!
But I’ll write one anyway.
Emma is the much-fabled Mrs Paso. The long-suffering muse for the entire Paso-Primero empire. In the tiny amount of free time she has outside of navigating the chaos I create, she somehow manages to be a multi-talented artist producing incredible large-scale installations across Shrewsbury, as well as murals, paintings, window displays, and a whole heap of projects to brighten up the high-street.
FULL DISCLOSURE - Emma hates tooting her own horn so I have taken the liberty of answering the questions for her. The only caveat she enforced was choosing her own photos. Which is a shame. Because I could have found some superb ones…..
Did the wine itself—its flavour, story, or current label—influence your artwork?
Absolutely not and 100% yes.
She’s an artist so the wine is the canvass not the focus.
But Emma is also Mrs. Paso.
She is part of Paso-Primero and has either created or consulted on every design we’ve ever used. So, she knows how important a label is and what it needs to convey to get it off the shelf and into your hand. For this design which will be shown in Tanners, a pivotal place in the Paso story, she wanted to link her work with my work and make something that celebrated both. A label which uses her award-winning window displays to create the perfect label for one of our award-winning wines.
How did it feel to be confined to a 11cm x 10cm box?
Like I’ve said, this ain’t Emma’s first rodeo. And despite usually working on displays roughly 1000 times bigger than a wine label, this is a world she’s excelled in before. Back when we first conceived the notion of artist wines, she created some of our most iconic labels. The box might feel small, but the ideas never do.
When is the perfect moment to drink your wine?
Ok, I’m tying myself up in knots now. I’ll ask Em....
The best time to drink any wine is when you’re with the person you love.
(Yeah, Em didn’t answer. She’d probably have said something like when you finally get back from harvest and I have five minutes peace).
