Can you introduce the piece and outline your process for creating it?

The first and most important part was to begin by tasting the wine and then making notes about the images and emotions it evoked - this is what my immediate impressions were - Dark cherry, not overly sweet, a richness, dark pinky red, not as frivolous as expected, more depth, a hint of sparkle, seductive, sophisticated, a grown up rosé, delicious, sexy, burlesque, very more-ish...

I scoured magazines and my resources to establish a colour palette of images and textures inspired by the words, then began to play around with layering images, shapes and colours to evoke the emotional response.

Getting the head right was the hardest part as it altered the whole feel of the piece. I didn't want it to be anyone recognisable, rather a more mysterious, amalgamation of a figure.

The design spent a couple of weeks as precariously positioned paper, making slight alterations, before everything was finally glued down.

Did the wine influence your artwork?

The taste of the wine very much influenced my artwork. Before I tasted it, I had in mind a very different, brighter, fruitier, more-kitsch response, but tasting the wine impacted on the darker colours I chose to give more depth, sophistication, seduction and glamour.

How did it feel to be confined to a 11cm x 10cm box?

The scale was the biggest challenge, but a really enjoyable one. I hand cut all the shapes using scissors, so some of the pieces were soo tiny! Trying not to breathe and blow them away before they were stuck down.

I adored this project as I love collaboration and this was the perfect creative brief to respond to. Total artistic freedom and the most gorgeous wine. I am hooked! This has definitely got my interest in wine label design and I would love to do more.

When is the perfect moment to drink your wine?

Savouring time to yourself or with those you love, drinking slowly to appreciate the complex, layered flavours, in a beautiful garden or opulent space, listening to your favourite music, celebrate your uniqueness, deserving of these beautiful moments...

An early evening, first drink when you finally have time for yourself to relax and enjoy.
